Visually it looks great, even if it takes much from the previous version released in 2000. But it can ruin what's supposed to be a good time. He ended up caught in an endless cycle of falling down and was teleporting everywhere! These things rarely happen, however. For instance, there was this one time where I was trying to send a runner to home plate and ended up getting caught in a pickle (a term for being caught between two opposing players trying to get you out while between bases.) The ball was being thrown around until it hit my player while he fell down. Any downsides this game has is that the characters voices tend to sound like they were voiced by two people (and most of them were.) And that the game has a tendency to sometimes glitch. In fact, most of what you can do is done simply by using the left mouse button, sometimes the right mouse can be used in certain circumstances like needing to run back to a base in case tying to steal wasn't such a good idea. Characters can have their stats either increase or decrease depending on various situations and the controls are as simple as choosing the type of pitch/hit and then clicking to swing or pitch the ball. Going into the mechanics of the game shows much potential. Or Season Play, where the player makes a team and then plays a season of baseball in order to try to win a shiny trophy.

So let's look at it more from a present stand point, okay? Backyard Baseball 2003 has a couple of modes to play with, the two that many kids will start out with is either Single Game where the the player and computer takes turns picking players and then using them to play a single game of baseball. With simple controls of the mouse and America's favorite past time, I would have thought of it as a masterpiece.
